Mission Statement
An auditioned community orchestra composed of professional and non-professional musicians; to educate, entertain and enrich people's lives through Contemporary, World and Jazz oriented music.
To give string players an opportunity to play jazz and world music with other musicians.
To educate the community about diversity and multi-cultural appreciation for all heritages.
To educate students about the performing arts. To support students through the Junior High School Instrumental Music Awards Program.
Instrumentation:
Strings, String Bass, Woodwinds, Brass, Rhythm Section, Electric Guitar and Piano
We live in a multi-cultural world. Here, in the United States we come in contact with people from all over the world. Our public school educational system is trying very hard to meet the needs of our ever-changing society. Music is the one component in our society that can understand and educate our students with appreciation and respect for diversity.
Here in the Carolinas we have the opportunity to educate everyone. Students can easily learn if they are interested in the subject matter. We as educators must know our students interests and adapt our teaching styles to keep our students actively engaged in the learning process.
Through music, we can keep our students reading, thinking, imagining and understanding. It is a proven fact that students who are actively involved in the Performing Arts are able to elevate their SAT scores compared to students who are not active in the Performing Arts. Not only are their test scores elevated but they're understanding of other subjects increases. They become better students, better learners, and more educated to meet the demands of the 21st Century.
Learning and playing Jazz and World music is one way to keep our students actively engaged in the Performing Arts.
